Answer: Which headers do you send in addition to the GET request? You should send a X-NXDocumentProperties or X-NXproperties header, see the documentation. The default behavior may have changed in different Nuxeo versions, I'm not sure.

Answer: It's mostly historical. There's no big difference between them, except that the one in addons has more dependencies, so if you depend on an existing Nuxeo addon then it's simpler to use that one.
